White Ribbon Day 2020

White Ribbon Day 2020

In what has been the craziest year so far in The Dash Charity’s history, with our cases at a record high and the majority of us working from home, we knew White Ribbon Day would look a little different.

White Ribbon Day is held every year on 25th November. It is an awareness day that promotes the end of violence e against women. We use White Ribbon Day each year to open a conversation about domestic abuse, as much of the violence against women that occurs in our society is from within the home.

By commemorating White Ribbon day, you are making the promise to never commit, excuse or remain silent about violence against women. This promise is something that shouldn’t be taken lightly and should be backed up by action!

We shared a ‘virtual’ ribbon on our social platforms for our community to share with their friends to support the cause. The ribbon came with a promise: I promise to never commit, excuse or remain silent about violence against women.

This promise was fulfilled by action by so many fantastic people. A special thank you goes to Lauren and Ellie who both undertook massive fitness challenges to raise both funds and awareness  for The Dash Charity as part of the campaign. Between them, they raised almost £6000 and have helped enormously in raising awareness for the importance of our work. Thanks to them and everyone who supported them in their incredible achievements.

This year seen a dramatic escalation in the incidents of domestic abuse. At Dash, during the first lockdown, referrals to our services doubled, and for children, tripled. The need for domestic abuse services has never been higher in the UK. It was incredibly uplifting to see so many make this promise and stand with us as we continue to support survivors of this horrific crime.
