Creating Safer Workplaces: The Dash Charity launches Workplace Domestic Abuse Pledge for International Women’s Day 2025

Join the movement to support survivors in the workplace

This International Women’s Day, The Dash Charity is launching a Workplace Domestic Abuse Pledge, inviting businesses and employers across the region to commit to creating safer, more supportive workplaces for those affected by domestic abuse.

With 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men experiencing domestic abuse in their lifetime, the workplace can be a vital space where survivors find support – or, sadly, where the signs of abuse go unnoticed. Employers have a unique opportunity to make a difference, and this pledge is the first step towards meaningful change.

What is the Workplace Domestic Abuse Pledge?

By signing The Dash Charity’s pledge, businesses and organisations commit to:

Raising awareness of domestic abuse and its impact on employees.
Creating a safe and supportive workplace culture where staff feel able to seek help.
Providing signposting to specialist services for those affected by abuse.
Encouraging leadership and HR teams to recognise and respond to domestic abuse appropriately.

Taking the next step: Training and supporting staff and volunteers

Signing the pledge is just the beginning. While it’s a strong statement of intent, real change happens through action. That’s why we make expert workplace training available to help businesses take practical steps to support employees, including:

  • Domestic abuse awareness training – equipping teams with the knowledge to identify signs of abuse and respond sensitively.
  • HR & leadership workshops – providing guidance on workplace policies, reasonable adjustments, and best practices.
Why does this matter?

Domestic abuse doesn’t stay at home – it follows people to work. Research shows that:
🔹 75% of domestic abuse survivors are targeted by their abuser while at work.
🔹 1 in 10 victims has had to leave their job because of domestic abuse.
🔹 Businesses lose £1.9 billion each year due to reduced productivity, absence, and staff turnover linked to domestic abuse.

By signing the pledge and taking further steps, businesses are not only supporting their employees – they are also strengthening their own workplaces, reducing absenteeism, and fostering a culture of care and inclusion.
