‘I loved my husband but I wanted to make decisions about my own life’

From the beginning of my marriage, my husband hit me. I was treated like a slave. He was controlling and jealous, would spend our money on alcohol and force me to give him all my wages. He would make any excuse to hit me. Divorce wasn’t an option for me as this would have brought shame on my family.

One day I thought he would kill me. I ran out of the door with no idea where to go. I ran to the police station and they put me in touch with Dash.

Dash found me an Immigration lawyer who helped me go to a refuge away from my husband. I was so grateful to Dash, without them I would have had no option but to return to a violent home. I can’t thank them enough!
